From Revolution to Restaurant

(From Revolution to Restauration)
site-specific installation with a banner

Gdańsk Shipyard – 100cznia

group exhibition:
Wyspa 4.0 Place of Ideas / Idea of Place / Adaptive Practices
on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of
the Wyspa Gallery / Wyspa Progress Foundation

The slogan on the banner draws connections between the crossed hammer and sickle — a symbol of the workers' revolution that later became associated with communist totalitarianism, ultimately overthrown by the workers — and the crossed knife and fork, a common restaurant symbol representing consumption in a broader context.

This artwork investigates the relationship between the concepts of social change and the mechanisms that transform these ideas into fiction, and how their symbols can become meaningless signs or trademarks. Are commerce, capitalism, and consumption effective solutions for social unrest and a means to achieve a fulfilling life? How much do the individuals who fought for social change truly benefit from it?

The banner was displayed on containers at 100cznia, located in the post-industrial area of the Gdańsk Shipyard. According to the project's website, 100cznia integrates container architecture, cultural offerings, and cuisines from diverse regions of the globe.
