THE PENITENT WOMEN BRIDGE

Between the two towers of Saint Madeleine Church in Wroclaw there is a small bridge called the "Penitent Women Bridge". Previously it was a place where unfaithful wives were punished. They were obliged to clean and sweep the bridge during the day, so that all the town-people could see them.

As a part of the project "Disenchanting" that aimed at reviewing some past events, I decided to repeat the activity of the penitent women. I cleaned the bridge during the day when there were many tourists around, and in the project I asked the question if the city dwellers and tourists remember the legend. The results of my action are two videos presented as a two-channel video-installation.
